Anxiety

Feelings of dread or worry about life situations can be normal and can affect anyone.  When anxious feelings are disproportionate to the actual life situation and/or impact your quality of life, then you should see your doctor.

There are many different types and severities of anxiety disorders.  Some people with an anxiety disorder may have constant worry and/or may have problems sleeping.  Other people with an anxiety disorder may be avoidant of certain life situations, such as going out in public, and may even have panic attacks. Symptoms of a panic attack may include:

  • Difficulty breathing
  • Feelings of dizziness or lightheadedness
  • Indigestion or discomfort in abdomen
  • Feelings of choking
  • Heart pounding or racing
  • Sweating (not caused by heat)
  • Fear of dying

The diagnosis of an anxiety disorder is formed through an evaluation with a trained professional, and only a trained professional should attempt to diagnose an anxiety disorder.
